Mateo Manaure was a Venezuelan artist who was born on October 18, 1926, in Uracoa, Monagas. He was known for his abstract and geometric paintings and works on paper, which were heavily influenced by the Venezuelan landscape and indigenous culture. Manaure was a key figure in the Venezuelan abstract art movement of the mid-20th century and was a founding member of the Los Disidentes group, which sought to challenge the dominant figurative style of art in Venezuela at the time. He studied at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Aplicadas in Caracas and was also a prolific muralist, completing numerous murals throughout Venezuela and other countries. Manaure received numerous awards and recognitions for his work, including the National Prize for Plastic Arts in 1998. He passed away on January 19, 2018, in Caracas, Venezuela.
